Duluth News Tribune Minute

Jan 31, 2022

One of the unexpected success stories from the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea was the gold medal triumph of the United States men’s curling team, featuring Chisholm native John Shuster, McFarland, Wisconsin native Matt Hamilton, Duluth natives John Landsteiner and Tyler George as well as Duluth native and alternate Joe Polo. They were the first American team to ever win gold in curling. Four years later, as the defending champs, the Shuster Rink won’t be flying under the radar at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.  They are mostly the same, but something is different this time around. George has stepped away from elite curling and now, Duluth native Chris Plys is part of Team USA.

Plys will be busy in Beijing as he will also compete on the U.S. mixed-doubles team.

On December 15, 2021, the U.S. men’s curling team took part in Media Day at Curl Mesabi in Eveleth. Duluth News Tribune digital producer Dan Williamson hosts this special episode of the Duluth News Tribune Minute as the members of the team shared their thoughts about competing on the world stage.
